Small project to show

Just though I would show a small project I did for my grandson. A suspended cradle. I bought the spindles for the sides and used newel posts for the uprights.
I also added a picture of him enjoying a nap in the cradle

Wow, I would have to agree with Insom. Very beautiful work. The finish looks great and it obviously works very well, the little guy is sleeping like a baby.

What a great cradle. It sure will be around for a while. The finish looks great. What kind of finish did you do for it? I have heard of people taking special care to use certain kinds of finishes for cribs/cradels but I haven't made anything for a baby.

It's a beautiful cradle and fine workmanship. I've got a grandson coming (he'll be named after me) this spring and I'd love to make one for him. I couldn't figure out the pivot points, however. It looks like it rotates around the lower pivot (on axis with the baby's body) and that the upper connection point can move out the length of the piece between the crib and the post...correct? If you have drawings to share, I'd be interested.

The cradle swings on the upper pivot points. The lower ones are actually locking pins to hold the cradle steady when putting the baby in, taking it out, or changing it. I am sure I have the plans I just have to locate them. Some where in my library of plans. In other words in in my stack of stuff and books in my garage.
