Side tracked and still almost holiday ready

Turning was sidetracked for a little repair job:

Granddaughter needed a radiator. Family surprised I could put the truck inside. Nice to work protected and warm.

But holiday work must go on. Back of truck made a good staging surface while I was waiting on Rock Auto for parts. So I turned the annual noise makers.

Elk cow/rabbit predator calls (left), and elk bull calls (right). And, these things are obnoxious!!!! Good way to wake up the neighbors the morning after they light fireworks late at night.

Family won't be gathering this year. We'll have two separate session. That will keep the volume down. I need to turn just a couple more for guests. Waiting on PSI for delivery. OBTW, the directions for these from PSI were not good/accurate/complete. I've notified them.

I did give one to the car dealer service rep. He was excited and asked me to autograph it. Glad to make him happy.

As always, C&C welcomed.

Wishing you and yours happy holidays.

Glad you explained, 'cuz I couldn't tell what they were.
Nicely done. Are these going our 'bare', or do you have a fav finish for this type of 'to be used' turning?

I knew they are calls but didn't guess the animals. Nice variety of spindle designs, I guess that is so the kids know theirs and don't fight over them...

Good job on the truck, had a friend help with mine this year, a little more complicated since it has a towing package transmission cooler.

The walnut got lacquer. They're for the grandparents, management and me. The rest are food safe Mahoney Oil. I've checked on walnut allergies previously for all but one (2yr old great grand) and we are good.

OBTW, species: oak, cherry, maple, walnut.

Truck was down for 3 days waiting on the radiator to arrive. I changed the lower radiator hose and thermostat while access was easy. Hardest part was getting the intake hose off the filter and the injector manifold, ugh!. The transmission lines were the non-threaded (A/C type) disconnects. I watched a YouTube that suggested using a pick to release the clips (just don't loose 'em) and it worked easily. The towing package radiator sits to the side of the AC coil.

You know when they're little, they step on you toes. When they're teens and YAs they walk on your heart. When they're out there (LEO) trying to make their way, they tend to hit the wallet on occasion. Probably cost me $300.

Very glad the leak got big sitting in my driveway on a Sunday—crack in the (plastic) cap. After 337,000 miles.

UPDATE: Early Xmas for 1/2 the family tonight. It took the 2 year old about 5 mins to finally get a consistent sound out of his call. And, then he didn't want to quit.
Forgotten lesson: Hand out noise makers after the present openings.
He kept the family laughing while he learned how and after. He also made some new sounds that I haven't been able to replicate...with the call.

These are a hit!
