I have come across an old lathe, but know nothing about it other than it is variable speed and has a reversing motor. I have attatched a picture for comments/advise. I do not know the brand, but was told it worked and had attachments/tools. What is it worth?

yup thats a metal lathe, it can be used to turn wood as well, but i think the swing is a little smaller on metal lathes. And yes that is a sweet lathe if you can get a good deal with tools.

The guy says he bought it to use on metal, but it didn't turn slow enough. Would I be able to do small wood projects on this machine? It has a 48" bed.

Where there's a will there's a way - might require a few mods to successfully complete your vision. But then again success is at the cross roads of vision and hard work. So if your willing to put in the hard work to make modifications, I see no reason why you can't be successful in your vision. When all is said and done you would have one fine wood working lathe :)

Thanks

I guess the first questions I would ask concern your requirements. Does this tool fit a need that you have? How well? What will you do with it? I think budget questions come later. (I hope this doesn't make me sound as if I'm recovering from Wood Guy Disease... because, I never had that.)

Well, honestly I don't have a need for it, but the price is so rediculously low I should probably jump on it. I have always wanted a lathe, just never had a huge need.
