I was just taking a look at insomniacs site www.shootingboard.net and wondered how many of you have built and used these, along with donkeys ears as well - personally, I love them, I like the crisp edge that shooting end grain with a plane gives.
I'm very interested in making some but never have, on my list after other shop jigs/fixtures. I have built a few makeshift shooting board setups, and you're right, they give great edges.
My shooting board is brute simple and not too pretty, but I use it often. Dimensions are about 12X18" and I would make it narrower and longer next time. I use a block plane for squaring my crosscuts, but dream of making a wooden miter plane (won't happen).
I'm putting a ramped shooting board like the one on the woodnet thread on my project list.
