I borrowed a digital microscope from work and made a few pics this morning. This is a Klotzli chip carving knife at around 100x or so. The magnification is not real accurate on the small handheld unit. Later I may try to use one of the lab scopes for some better pics. This should give a rough idea of a simple quick sharpening job.
This is the rough edge after I tapped it with a screwdriver.
Here I've reshaped the edge on a 320 grit diamond plate. You can see the wire edge formed where two flat planes meet.
Here you can see the wire edge from the opposite side.
Here I have stropped the blade on a piece of leather with green polishing compound.
You can still see grind marks from the 600 grit diamond, but this is more than sharp enough to carve with.
