Recently bought out a complete shop of a fellow wood worker that has passed on. In the mix was a delta/rockwell 40-440 scroll saw. I am thinking about restoring it. The recommendation for lube oil is light #10. Anyone know if a non-detergent 10 weight will be ok?
Thanks

I would use a GL-1 oil (essentially mineral oil). Not sure if it is available in 10wt.

It is safe for any metals including any brass or other yellow metals that may be in the gear box. I don't recall that there was any brass in the one I rebuilt, but you should verify. In general just verify that whatever oil you use is safe for the components of the oscillating mechanism.

I restored a Powermatic Model 95 Jigsaw. The oil in the crankcase was dried up. I used WD40 to clean it out and to fill the clean crankcase. Worked fine.

No offense meant to Bill, but I would not recommend WD40. It's great for cleaning and moisture displacement, and has some lubricating properties but is not designed for long term lubrication. My $0.02
