Klingspor has sent me a pretty nifty little coupon book . In it there is coupon for 5" x 5 hole K/O Aluminum Oxide economy discs 50 fine 50 med and 150 ultra fine for $16.95 w/coupon

I am not familiar with aluminum oxide sandpaper
can some of you 'sperienced folks share pros , cons etc ?
sounds like a pretty good deal but I have thought that before and been proven wrong :embaresse

Thanx for any and all input :icon_thum

Robert,

Look at the fine print on some of the "sand" paper you already have. I bet you already have been using aluminum oxide and just didn't realize it.

It isn't always obvious:

Interesting article, Dave. I introduced a friend of mine to Klingspor's sandpapers a while back and he is extremely pleased with the results. He builds a lot of cabinets and he says KS is the best paper he's ever used.

At the Hickory show, I stocked up on several grits in the 50 pk. Good value.

Is this for hook and loop (velcro) or PSA (sticky paper)?

Aluminum oxide is pretty common. If this is for the hook and loop stuff, I would say it is a pretty good buy.

You get what you pay for. I know Klingspor paper cost more then the stuff at the BORG but it last it by a big margin. I plan to use my coupon.

You got that right; it is one item I have learned my lesson on. Some of the off brand stuff (or low grades of the name brands) will put sand in your shoes quicker than a walk on the beach. :rolf:

I looked at the coupon, I believe they are PSA, doesn't say so but that's what they look like. I was going to ask the wife to pick some up, but I use hook and loop.

On another note, I saw a coupon for the dyna floor mat and figured that would be great in front of the lathe. She's picking that up for me.

Please note that the Klingspor coupon sale "economy discs" are decent quality discs, but they make several grades with better abrasive and backings. I use their PS33 Hook & Loop stearate discs ("sand" color at $15.95/box 50) on my ROS's (I have both 5-hole and 8-hole models) and they hold up very well. If you want a premium disc, then they have their "heavweight" discs at $24.95/box 50.

I looked up the part numbers on their site and they are all H & L . There are 3 coupons , 2 for 5 and 8 hole silicon carbide and 1 is for 5 hole aluminum oxide.
Thanx to DaveO's link, I now know the difference :icon_thum
The grits seem to be random, only designated as " fine , medium, and ultra fine "
Now can someone tell me what the designation " K/O " means on these ?

There are tadpole sanders, long drum sanders, and many other things in this coupon book :eusa_clap
There went the Christmas budget !:rotflm:

I got a catalog too... didn't know how I got it... I just thought it was in the "junk mail" class and didn't pay alot of attention to it! :gar-Cr

Little did I know that it was a Discount Qualified (DQ) benefit!

I will try to find it... hope I didn't throw it...

I remember that it looked like a darn good place to get sandpaper! :rotflm:

Joe,

Even though Klingspor's four Woodworking Shops are located just in NC, they have a very good website at http://www.woodworkingshop.com/ that features many good offerings. The retail shops are all part of the Klingspor Company that is a world leader in industrial abrasives -- their US Headquarters is in Hickory, NC (adjacent to one of their stores), while the company is headquartered in Germany.

BTW, in order to use your DQ 10% discount, be sure to register for an account on their Woodworking Store website listed above. You should get that discount on eligible items ordered after that. HTH!
