I get an error when I click on that link. Is this what you are looking at? If so, I had a similar item made by craftsman, I bought it years and years ago. I hated it. It had wings that were of cheap stamped steel, and they just sagged down over time. It looks very similar to this one, but this one doesn't have the wings. The miter gage was plastic, and mostly worthless. I know what I had was a different item, but they are similar, and those are a few things to look at before you purchase it.

It seems that no one can get a link to HD to work:BangHead: :BangHead:

Andy, you probably would be better off with the router table I offered you. It may not be any better, but it is cheaper.

Dave:)

Yeah your probably right dave. I just like new stuff because its nice and clean for all of a few hours. But I have a crap miter saw so I dont want to add anything else beside it thats going to be bad quality.

Do you have any details on that one u offered me dave?

It isn't much different of a set-up than the Ryobi. Vermont American "pro" router table, aluminum main table and steel wings. Polycarbonate fence that is adjustable on the outfeed for jointing and some edge routing processes. Decent DC at the fence with a shop vac. Craftsman 1.5 HP router mounted with 1/4" collet. $50

The Ryobi and the craftsman are almost the same tool. The Ryobi plunge router got a good review, rated best value and seems to be fairly good quality. The tables I've looked at really close. For my money I would pass on the table. And I looked at the combo your talking about and thats about a $ 49.00 router and a $ 29.00 table. I don't think you'll be happy. Squirrel away a little money each week and pick you something up that will do what you really want it to do. And may look at building your own table set up to your liking.

Take a look at DaveO's router table. I think you'd be happier with that. But it depends if you can make it or not.

What do I do with my craftsman router table like this one you ask?

It makes a fine "tablesaw" for my son.

I got a router table I should sell as well since I finished my new one. It is woodstock rebel. No router, but it does have a power switch and is solid aluminum.

I personally wouldn't buy the Ryobi. Seems a bit flimsy to me.

If you're interested in getting a router table on the cheap, I would highly recommend looking at picking up the Hitachi M12V. This is a powerful plunge router that really offers great bang for the buck, IMHO (3.25 hp, VS, soft start, 1/2" collet, edge guide, etc). You can mount it in a Rousseau plate for about another $30 IIRC....

... and hang it in a table as simple as this:

Just clamp a board on for a fence when you need one. With this approach, you'll have probably $200 invested, but you will have a pretty good quality plunge router as well as a "router table" that is far more functional than the tools you are looking at.

Now, with my 2 cents, that makes $200.02

Insom, thanks for posting those pics. I had forgotten that a RT could be set up so quickly and cheaply, and still offer solid functionality. That will be the interim table for me! (unless I find the bosch table w/ 2.5 hp router in a pawn shop for $120 again!)

Eh Im just looking for a traditional premade table, aluminum maybe.

I figure $150 for the table and 75ish for the router will suit me with good quality.

Rob is right. the decent, new, $75 router is virtually nonexistent.

Consider searching the pawn shops. I had a PC Speedmatic in my hands for $80! If only I had said, hold this, I will be back! I ended up with my DW 621 for the same price, at the same pawn shop. Careful and persistent searching can yield good results.

Now that is a better looking table. One of the reasons I made me a new table is that I didn't feel right with the corrugated aluminum surface on my old table when it came to free-hand routing or anything that didn't follow the lines. What is that table surface made from?

Andy, you may have a winner here!!

Is this it? Not a good pic (on the left) but if this is what you are referring to, I like my Ryobi table - for general use. I don't do heavy duty shaping but for everything else I've had good luck with it. Its done everything I've asked it to and for under $100, it was worth it.

It is a solid aluiminum top. My biggest complaint with it was the fence was a POS so I made a new none. The other issue I had with it I believe applies to all bench top router tables. When I put it on my bench to use, it is a bit too high up making it a little uncomfortable to use. I am 6' 5" so my height is not the issue. I have had both a DW-625 and a PC 7518 in it. The DeWalt was easier to use in it as it only takes one wrench to change bits. Personally, I thought the PC had more power than the DeWalt, but the reason I switched was the variable speed quit working on the DeWalt and I have yet to break down and get a replacement for it.
