Hello all,
I have a Porter Cable router with a 1/2 " collect. I am trying to rout a 60" table top and the bit keeps slipping, irrespective of how much I tighten it. Any thoughts on what is wrong, needs to be fixed, adjusted, replaced?
Thanks,
Matt

Sounds like you need a new collet. These aren't very expensive (relative to the cost of a new router). Also, check the shaft of the bit to see if it's worn. Do all bits slip or just the one?

Too much moose spit on the shaft ...

Clean the collet and bit shaft. Check for wear/scratch marks on both.
If you have a micrometer, check the shaft diameter. could be under sized.

Matt, which direction is it slipping? Further into the collet or out of the collet? This might help to diagnose the problem.
