Router Bit for Slots

I'm just getting into woodworking and wanting to make a few jigs with slots. Which is the correct router bit to use on the table? I was thinking a spiral upcut bit. Would that be the right bit? Thanks.

If the top of the slot is important (as in no tearout) I suggest a downcut spiral bit.
If it's not important (tearout/fuzz OK) then any spiral bit or slot cutter bit will do.

How wide are the slots and how deep are they (X" w x Y" deep)? If you have a table saw the dadoes (slots) can be made with a set of dado blades.

Then the bit is also inverted. Upcut will cut toward the router or downward in a table. Still makes fuzzy edge

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like spiral cut is the way to go. I'll go ahead an upcut and downcut to cover all bases.
