Well, looks my tool budget may be on hold for awhile.:cry_smile

It certainly looks like we are in need of new roof over our heads. We had a the roof redone 20 years ago this past May. It is now time to start looking for a reliable roofing contractor here in the RaleighDurham/Cary/Apex area.

Has anyone out there had their roof re laced recently and be willing to provide me a few references? I would rather do this than closing my eyes and pointing to a contractor in the Yellow Pages!

Obviously, we talking some big bucks for a new roof and I would like to have it done right and maybe last another 20 years or so.

Thanks in advance for any of your recommendations.

What is wrong with the current roof?
Is this just a reshingle or is there damage that needs to be done, what type of roof, house type, etc...

Can you not do it yourself? I did the roof for my shop recently. Had to strip it, replace some wood that was rotted and also had termites. Then put on the paper and new 30year shingles. I already had a air comprssor and just bought a roofing air gun from HF and some nails from Lowes.

Also check out craigslist. I have found a lot of independent type smaller shops that seem to have great quality and also are cheaper.

Wayne, I used Tom Buzzard too. In fact my roof was done in July. Price wise he was not the cheapest. He had his act together from inspection to proposal to the finished job. I would use him again.

I recommend Consolidated Building Systems. Also consider using fifty year shingles instead of twenty year shingles.

Yea I see so many people installing 20/25 year shingles when a 30 year doe snot cost that much more let alone ones higher as well.

The 30 year shingles at Lowes were cheaper then the 25 year at HD.
That and make sure they are Alge resistant.

Thanks for all of the tips and recommendations!:icon_thum:icon_thum:icon_thum

I have had/will have three different roofing contractors crawling all over the roof to give me estimates. Now I guess I just hold my breath and wait for the news.

Thanks Again!
