I've spent the better part of this afternoon tinkering with this Xmas present. After several attempts I've got the jig adjusted properly but I'm experiencing some tear out when I route the tails. I'm using 3/4 red oak and a Dewalt plunge router. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Chuck C

Make an initial scoring pass with the router from left to right. Then I Like to go from left to right cleaning out the waste.

Are you using a double fluted carbide tipped bit?

What Travis said, plus use a backer board if you are not already and that is the side with the tear out. The Leigh jig manual describes using the scoring cut and motion Travis offered. That just shows this is a dovetail jig deal, not specifically a Rockler jig problem. I reviewed the Rockler jig a couple years ago and liked it as have lots of my viewers. Have fun!

Also, I find that keeping the edges honed with a diamond paddle really helps. Most of my NIB bits benefit from a little honing. I just give each flat face a few strokes before use.
