If you want to retain the patina, I'd just use elbow grease as Richard suggested with some WD-40 or some CRC 3-36 (here's an Amazon link) on a terry cloth rag. If you're less concerned about the patina, 0000 steel wool.

Doesn't even look too bad right now. Just needs a little cleanup.Let the whole thing soak in apple cider vinegar a couple of hours. Then use a soft brass wire wheel on it. Finish up with a light coat of oil and voila! Brand New.
