I have never used a bandsaw so I have no idea about how to use them for resawing. I want to make some maple cabinet doors and drawer fronts for the kitchen project. I have lots of 8/4 cutoffs that are big enough to use for this purpose. Could I use a bandsaw to resaw these cutoffs to make the panels with?

In principle - absolutely. In practice, I find that 8/4 lumber sometimes doesn't stay nice and flat after resawing: it cups, warps, etc.

So resaw a couple test pieces and see what sort of results you get and whether you have the requisite thickness (3/4" ?) left after you've jointed and planed the resawn lumber.

+1 I wished it worked the way it should, but in my experience you're better off with 4/4 stock. The only time I have been very successful with a good re-saw/bookmatch is when I got it into a frame on the same day.

Thanks, gentlemen. It sounds like I'd be better off using 4/4 and using the cut offs for cutting boards and such. I don't have room for a bandsaw anyway :nah: .

Ah looking for an excuse to to buy a bandsaw, eh
There is always room for a bandsaw in the shop. I didn't have enough room for a work stool, but managed to squeeze in the bandsaw :wconfused:

Trust me, you will find a reason. And they fall in the must have category :wink_smil

HTH,
Roger
