I went to a local carvers meeting Thursday and saw some great work. http://www.capefearcarvers.org/ Enough that I caught the bug. (Like I don't have anything left to learn about furniture building or turning.)

I bought a set of knives and found some Basswood. Came home and googled free relief carving patterns. Lots of listings saying free till you get on the sites. Do any of you carvers have a source for free patterns? Or any advice?

Here are a couple: http://www.carvingpatterns.com/gift.htm

And here is a Welsh love spoon that I tried: http://www.carvingpatterns.com/spoons/images/cut-pattern.jpg

Barn: http://www.carvingpatterns.com/landscapes/basics_to_landscape.htm

This is Laura Irish's web site. She also has free tutorials that I have found pretty helpful since I am a beginning carver myself. Good luck....keep the chips flying!! I actually carved the barn as my first project and quickly proceeded to screw it up royally by trying to paint it. Painting is much harder than carving!!

Some of the places I looked when I was just starting was coloring books. The sites mentioned above are pretty good too. Have fun! It's another addiction!:eusa_danc
