For most of us, we all made some kind of a work bench (or dozen) over the years.
I made this current workbench about 6-1/2 -7 years ago and in my enthusiasm, I originally made it 35 " wide......... yeah it was too wide.
Now, I am a sport 'n all, but as age begins to creep up on you, 35" is kinda a pain to reach across for any protracted amount of time. So, I'll need to narrow it some day I said to myself. That, and the dumbass in me forgot to put my metal shield on it when I was welding causing some pretty severe slag burns in the top 2 years ago finally made me prioritize doing this right away to remedy..... (2 years ago?!).
Anyway, I finally did it I cut it down to 27.5" wide and planed 3/32" off the top, and filled in the screw holes as well as, any other damage.
Finally, I refinished with Boiled linseed oil, and I mean real boiled linseed oil. For those who are unaware almost all boiled linseed oil sold at Ace or big box stores is chemically treated with Cobalt salts and not boiled. However, real boiled linseed behaves very differently and finishes way better. It is lighter and absorbs without a chemical reacting to the chemistry of the wood. It dries about as fast as the cheapo store stuff. This is available in a lot of places. But, here in Hawaii... Amazon is your choice.
So, seeing is believing look at the richness the top now has and this will last.......... until the next welding lame out........
