I am looking at getting a cabinet 26" x 36" x 12" and 40-50 lbs. Any recommendations for how to get it boxed and shipped?

Thanks.

Business to business will get you by far the best rate. I parted out a project car when we bought our house, and tended to save 50-75% shipping from my employer’s loading dock.

If you have a connection at a local business with a loading dock, you might be able to pay their cost.

I was coming in to say the same thing about pirateship. I'm not sure how pirateship will do on large packages but they are fantastic for shipping the 3d printed stuff I've made recently.

If the packaged size is not a whole lot bigger than the stated size, that is small enough for UPS ground shipping.

I recently shipped a wall desk about the same dimensions and weight as yours. I went to a local bicycle shop and got a box which worked. Shipped via UPS ground , it was around $120.

If nothing works out I plan to be in the Mid Hudson Valley in October I could pony express if it is coming to NC.

I used PirateShip recently for a 40x18x12 that weighed about 30 pounds and it was $35 to the other side of the countryl

You can't beat PirateShip. I have used them for years with no problems. Great place to deal with.
You would just need to box or crate what you're shipping. I've shipped a medium size burial box (coffin) with UPS Freight way cheaper than UPS Freight was going to charge me and I dropped it off at my local UPS store.

I just used pirateship - second time I’ve paid for label and attached the pdf to an email to the seller. Recent was usps shipping a 10 lb box from Ohio that cost only $10, less than half retail. There are size and weight triggers for moving up to freight rates. Can’t recall exactly but think it’s something like 100” total of the 3 sides or over 8 ft long and used to be over 50lbs, not sure if that’s the same. Your dimensions sound fine but crated wt may push it into freight category. Last large item I received was crated with osb stapled onto ripped 2x corners. Inside item was protected by pieces of cardboard stretch wrapped around it.

Add another vote for pirateship.com, I pretty much use it any time I ship stuff at this point regardless of size or weight. Rates are far better and you can add insurance as needed.

Though pricey.... If you go thru the UPS Package Store and let them pack and ship, they guarantee it. If it gets damaged, they will pay the declared value amount.

If you can convince the shipper to package it, a large heavy duty box from a big box store stuffed with pool noodles on every side will travel well. I've done numerous times with success, even shipping cast iron like this.

Good luck,
Jim

I shipped a ICOM 7300 transceiver via the UPS Store. I would never do that again. When you let them pack and ship something, if you have an insurance claim, you don't really have the claim, the UPS store does. My transceiver was destroyed in shipping. I could not file a claim, I had to go through the UPS store, which caused a lot of delays. I eventually received the insurance money for the radio, but it took a much longer than I would have expected.

How this would work out with Pirate Ship if you had an insurance claim is unknown by me at this time. However, if you pack the item and generate a label at home when dealing with UPS, then you would be dealing directly with the insurer. Just a thought.
