This is a jewerly box that i made for my wife from some pecan and I think the other wood is dark poplar that I reclaimed from an old table that she bought at a yard sale. everything is from the table except the handle it a piece of scrap of maple that I had laying around in my shop. I still have to put the hinges on and put the fabric in the bottom. I finished it with tung oil does anyone think that I should put something on it for a top coat.

Beautiful work, Rick. :icon_thum I don't know about a top coat. I usually mix oil w/ varnish or poly, which gives me the top coat at the same time.

Nice work, and kudos on reclaiming some great looking wood!

I think its a personal preference on top finish. Well preference and setting I guess.
I made a jewlery box for my sister from willow that I finished with tung oil. Many years later it looks as nice as the day I gave it to her. For instance, for my niece, with her kids pets etc, I'd have to go with a more durable finish like poly.
