Random Photo images

My biggest worry about this display is that they might be cluttering up the screen too much. I have 2 20" displays each set at 1600 x 1200 resolution and at times I think the screens are cluttered a bit much. So I am wondering what other people think.

A lot of the features and mods that I add are intended to make the site look more inviting and really don't add much functionality. Sort of self advertising. This one falls into that category. So I guess I am looking for feedback

OK Steve, feedback you want.........feedback you get. I am running a 19" monitor set to 1280 x 1024 and the addition of the random photos look fine to me. Not too much clutter IMHO.

I went to all five pages where you have the random photos currently displaying. I think the only change I would recommend is to remove the random photo feature from the "Downloads" home page. The only reason I recommend this is because a new member might see one of the random photos and think they will be able to locate the plan for that project in the Downloads section.

Yes, that's a legitimate concern. I'll bet there are not many people who surf the web at 1600 x 1200. 8-O FWIW, mine is at 1280 x 1024. I know you know this, but when designing a web site you have to design with the lower resolutions in mind -- that's one of the reasons that your most important info should be right up at the top. For me personally, I design with 1024 x 768 in mind, but that's not based on any real data - just a guess that it's the most common lower screen resolution. While you're designing the site, change your screen resolution to 800 x 600 from time to time, and I'll bet you'll be surprised!

If you want to rearrange things, my personal opinion is that "System Status" box is probably no longer needed. You could put the "User CP" welcome message there, perhaps? And maybe put "More Pages" and "Member Websites" along the right side, under "Birthdays"? Just some thoughts to maybe keep the most important site offerings (the recent forum threads, the gallery, and the chat room) closer to the top and along the left side where they will be readily visible on the home page.

Looks pretty good from my screen Steve. I seems to give a little more balance by moving some of the boxes over to the right column. I don't have to scroll down much at all to be able to view the lower ends of the right or left columns now.

That's a big improvement! Much less clutter on the home page. The only other thing I might change would be to put the "system status" down lower, between birthday and stats. It seems to fit down there with stats, and brings the user CP up to the top. I especially like having the FlashChat box up higher, so you don't have to scroll down to see if someone is in there.

Once again, great job you're doing Steve. Your constant improvements are making this site better all the time.

I was gonna say that is because I have the most pics in my albums, but you do, 219 to my 176. vBulletin must just like me.
