I have started carving the hair and roughing out the horns. At this point I just want to get a feel for the horns so that I can begin to "see" the rest of the ram.
The hair is carved in a rough manner with the humps and dips placed and then everything is worked and reworked until it looks right. The hair on the head is put in with a Fordom tool using a blue stone. This way I can get the layout right for the carving to be done with tools. A lot of what has been done here is preliminary in that the main hair groups and directions have been put in and I can see where things need to be tweaked. The next picture when compared to this one will explain better.
I am really enjoying this carving, a ram is just a really great subject for this type of work.
