HI everyone, I have a question about the size wood you buy or would want to buy.
I have logs and I do not know if I should cut 1" boards or 2 ' or what.:dontknow: I see places that sell turning squares, bowl blanks, pen blanks and other size boards, do most people look for the turning squares and bowl blanks.
My questions is what is more popular?
turning squares like 2x2x different lengths
bowl blanks 5x5x2 or 6x6x2
boards? long or short?
What do you folks buy or look for, size wise.
I am trying to build a stock of cut wood and I would like to know what the woodworkers need, any help and input would be great, thanks and aloha.

Well for bowl stock I like at least a 3" thickness and up to 12" wide. For spindle stock 2" square is the norm but many projects call for 3", but that is more difficult to dry. For flat stock a mix of 4/4 and 8/4 should cover most needs but it is also nice to have 6/4 available for that occasional thicker stock where you don't want to waste 8/4 for.

Hey Kalai, I like bowl blanks in the 8 to 10" wide by 3 to 4" thick range. I've made a number of purchases from 'gotwood' and 'NCWood' off ebay when I'm not using "found" wood. You can take a look at their stock for examples. I really need to get some of that curly Koa or Mango from you at some point :icon_thum.

Let's see :eusa_thin 10-12" wide x 12 - 24" long . 1/8 to 1/2 " thick ( sanded to 220 one side ) or 1 - 1 1/2" thick rough so I can resaw

I now that's not much help but I'm a scroller :gar-La;
