Question on woods

A friend of mine in Fla. wants to make some signs for his yard - he wants to do two different colors with the background being the dark - What two woods do you recommended for this and what type of finish? I know about the marine type finish is there anything others

In Florida, I'd definitely use cypress for the lighter wood.:thumbs_up Lots of choices for the darker. General Finishes 450 Exterior will not change the color of the wood. Multiple coats will do the trick!

Thanks Reggie - I figured Cypress would be good but I am not sure of the darker wood - will the finish help protect the darker wood no matter what he goes with -

Ipe comes to mind. Also remember that cypress soaks up stain like a sponge. I made this entirely from cypress:

But it hasn't been exposed to the Folrida sun on a daily basis. But if it were sealed, it should keep its color pretty well.
