Progress(or lack of) on shop

Three weeks ago I bit the bullet and decided to do the shop addition that I've been thinking about for 2 years. My shop is now 20X36 and I'm adding 14X36. This will be a small paint/finishing room (8X8). The rest will be my work bench and assembly area. I got the footings poured and have been waiting for the block mason for two weeks. At least I can still work in the old part. Since I made the decision, it seems that the shop is getting smaller. As you can see, I can't throw out any pieces of wood. Lumber storage takes up 25% of my shop.

Goona be a real Taj Mahal!!!! I wish I could expand so I could add separate wood storage and finishing rooms. But I can't since my shop is above the garage. Hmmm, unless I take over one bay of the garage :-D:-D

That is going to be nothing but awesome. Your 20' width from your pictures seems narrower than that.

Once you get the addition built, then you can put a lean to on the back for wood storage! Been thinking about that awhile for myself.

Must be the perspective, the shop is 20 ft wide. There is a 4 ft wall in the middle that makes it seem even more cramped. the two views are on each side of the mini wall. Actually the addition will be for my work bench and assembly area and paint room with maybe a piece or two of equipment. This will allow me to spread out the big stuff in the existing space( and allow more accumulation of wood ). what I didn't show was the opposite end with the bench. This is another 25%. What shop could be called is "how not to lay one out".

The accummulation (otherwise know as hoarding) of wood is a disease I have as well. Never seem to have enough, and never seem to have space for it all.

Your current shop is 50 percent larger than mine (24 x 20). I would think you could get a much more effective layout if you got rid of the divider wall.

Must be neat to know that you're going to have a dedicated finishing room!! :-D

Looking good. Don't worry about the perfect layout of the shop for now. There will always be things that you don't like about the current layout that you want to tweak. This is one of the on-going processes that make this endeavor a lot of fun.
Organization is the key. Make sure to make some storage cabinets to keep items in that can easily be found. In a busy shop or in the middle of a project, tools and stuff can get lost quick.
Keep up the good work. Stay safe and watch those fingers.
