I need some pressure Tx 6x6 for the vertical supports but I'm too cheap to buy it so I was thinking of using white oak which I have plenty of and burning it. I saw this on utube and the guy says it will keep the bugs out. Any opinions on that?? I would hate to do this and have to deal with a bunch of rotting issues down the road.
I might could paint the part that goes in the ground with that black tar stuff?? Maybe even put termite killer in the hole with the post??

Old school was to soak in used motor oil. Termite killer in the holes too, but they are not going to last. I would pour cement piers and not put wood in the ground. Even the modern " guaranteed" stuff is junk.

When we lived in PA, I built a pole barn using white oak 6X6. I bored a 3/4" hole at an angle down into the post and the first of every month I filled it with used motor oil diluted with kerosene. Probably not the most environmentally approach, but the barn still stand after 30 years and the posts have not rotted.
