For the last week and a half I have not had the opportunity to do much but work around the house and be bored visiting so when I made a stop by Woodcraft I picked up Woodcraft magazine.

In the back, I start reading this article from this guy in Rocky Mount, NC talking about a new stain called Pokeweed delivered by Mockingbirds. I have lived in NC for almost all my life (lived in Rocky Mount for a year), but I don't think I have ever heard of Pokeweed.

It was an interesting and funny story and it is nice to see someone I have traded posts with being published.

Mike Stafford, nice writing and congratulations on being published.:eusa_clap

Now, is there another name for Pokeweed?:?:

I've heard it called Pokesalad. It is very common and has a very red stem on it. It's berries are the ammunition for almost all the reddish purple bird splats on your car. Check out this link if you want to get techincal

BTW, if you didn't know the author of that article is our own Big Mike.

Thanks Travis. Consider yourself blessed if you haven't experienced pokeweed. My shop is sided in white vinyl siding and the birds love to bomb it. They are notorious for putting splats of purple glop right in the middle of your car windshield. You must be a city boy....:rolf: . Iffen you grew up in the country you would know all about pokeweed. And poke salad is a delicacy I have heard about for years but never have known anyone to actually eat it.

Well, I am definitely NOT a city boy. Grew up in the sticks of Durham County, but I was able to avoid ever having to prime tobacco.

I think I have experienced Pokeweed, just never new the name. Part of the issue of growing up in the middle of nowhere (closest neighbor was about 1/2 mile) and having a mother that is full German you don't get to know the local lingo too much. Still playing catch up.
