I found this plane at an antique mall, was almost afraid to buy it because I haven’t seen one like it before. But I could tell it is old and in fairly good shape. Photos later. Before I start to clean it and use it I decided to do a little reading. So, I found that this is a Stanley, I knew it was a 6 size, read that it is a type 4 made between 1874 and 1888. Definitely the oldest plane I ever bought. I need to clean with a nylon brush and some mineral spirits but it looks like the black is still there in all the right places, there is no pitted rust, only a deep patina. Really it looks like one of my daily users except for the obvious type differences.
more later, I have to get ready for work.
