I guess I just don't understand:roll: From the poll about Photo Gallery Speed, I identified 19 people who were having problems. So I sent the following PM to each of them.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to the poll.

I am sending this PM to all the people who have indicated that they have problems with Photo Gallery response time. If you would reply with the info requested, it will be a great help to me in isolating the problem.

Results from here using the Dallas Server

Who is your ISP

Connection type Dial up, DSL, Cable Modem

What speeds is your ISP promising

Type of machine: PC or Mac

OS

OS version

Browser

Browser version.

Do you know how to run a ping cmd?

Do you know how to run a trace Route command

Are you using a Broadband Router between you and your net connection.

if so, make and model

if so are connected directly are wireless

if so, how many other machines are connected to router and how

Would you be willing work with me over the phone for about an hour? My dime.

If you live in the triangle area, would you allow me to visit and attempt to debug from there?

If you have any other info that you feel may important for me to know please include it.

Of that 19, 18 have read the message, or at least I got a receipt. Of that 18, I received only 7 replies. I guess I just don't understand. Of the 119 people who were on the system during the time poll was open, only about half took the 30 sec that it would taken to respond to the poll.:-(

Am I doing something wrong. I am just trying solve a problem that has been reported by at least 25 people.

Just a guess from me... possible that some people look at the requested information and simply do not know the answers off the top of their heads, so they have intentions to do it later. Then forget.

That's just a guess though.

Steve, I don't see anything wrong with what you are doing. Just to clarify something for though.........I responded to the first thread with the requested information after conducting the speed test with the Atlanta server so I am confident I responded to that one correctly. As for the poll, I read your post then cast my answer by selecting the best response. I did not however respond to your post with any other additional information. Was I supposed to provide additional info for that poll, or was answering the poll all you were looking for?

You not doing anything wrong, people just aren't used to someone caring and trying so hard to correct a problem that only effects a small majority of the users. Plus what Clay said. If I had got that PM at work, I would have to wait until I got home to fill out most of the information (and ask my wife what half of it means   )

D L you did exactly what I asked. You responded to poll saying you had no problem. Not much you could have added.

You weren't sent the PM, so you couldn't have responded:lol: Not much more that I could ask, unless you secretly know what the problem is, and haven't shared it:slap:

But why didn't people respond to poll? It's not like they could have missed it.:BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: That was a rhetorical question, I know the answer. It just ****es me off:-x

Enough! I've vented. Time for another pain pill:drunken_s and a nap

I didn't respond as I haven't had any issues and my time online has been very restricted the past few days, so my bad. You sent PM's and no response doesn't say a whole lot for them. Lack of interest or concern.

How 'bout some cheese with that whine?!?!? :eusa_booh  I think it's incredible that you're willing to devote so much time and brain power to troubleshooting this issue, right down to being willing to help people troubleshoot/optimize their own home network! I agree with Clay - probably overwhelmed or don't know the answer, perhaps surfing at work and not at home (who would do that?!?!?), perhaps don't want some creepy old fart calling them at home... who knows? I wouldn't take it personally (unless someone calls you "old"!)

BTW, I wish you would come troubleshoot my home network for me! I'd even keep you in constant supply of hot coffee! ;-)

Steve, I didn't get a pm so I guess I posted to the right places. I did get confused - it seemed as though there were two slightly different polls at the same time. I ran the speed checks and took a chance on answering the right places. I have not been able to spend a lot of time on the site and did get confused. I would not have known how to answer most of the questions on the pm so I'm glad I didn't get it.

I understand your frustrations - trying to keep everything working and everybody happy. Thanks for being so persistent and dedicated. :eusa_clap

Steve -- those of us that seem to try to help are apparently not the ones with the original response issues -- go figure why the folks that raised the flag didn't make the effort to help solve it... They are the Silent Majority, just like in politics -- only the squeaky wheel gets the grease and then it moves on as if it was supposed to be that way all along. Nonetheless, we continue to be amazed how you drop everything and plunge in to solve problems -- many of us that signed on to help are really pretty helpless on complex code issues like this, but we sure appreciate everything you put into making this site such a marvelous place to share our common passion for woodworking. Thanks, Papa Smurf!
