Well here are my second and third attempts. The stars were stack cut. I like that. I designed the ornament for Josh in Photoshop. I am pretty happy with all of them. They will be put on the tree soon.

What do you typically finish them with. The Josh one has a coat of BLO on it just trying it out.

Very nice work bro :eusa_clap
I am particularity impressed with your Josh pattern :icon_thum Where did the star pattern come from ?
I use BLO a lot. I use a small metal pan ( disposable ones work well ) , dip the piece , let it drip dry for 10 mins or so . Use a piece of wax paper ( to protect your table/bench ) and place 3 or 4 layers of paper towel on it , lay the piece on the pad , then cover with a couple more layers of paper towel. The toweling wicks the BLO from the intricate cuts . Lightly press the top towels to blot and hang to dry. After about 24 hrs , finish with 2 or 3 light coats of DEFT
Pour the oil back into a small glass jar ( the less air space the better ) to reuse later :icon_thum
Easy as knittin' kitten britches
You're off to the races now bro :eusa_danc

Great job ! :icon_thum :eusa_clap :icon_thum :eusa_clap

Nice job. You are catching on very quickly my friend. IMHO, BLO takes a long time to dry. For ornanments and other small items I dip them in either tung oil or sanding sealer. I use a small aluminum roasting. I pour some finish in the pan. Drop the ornaments in the pan for about 30 sec. Then I lay them on a rack (construction wire) so the excess drips back in the pan. After about 5 minutes I wipe the excess with a paper towel and then hang them.

Left over finished is poured back in the can and reused.

Thanks for the comments. I am enjoying scrolling alot more than I thought I would. It's a little slower than pen making but that is good I need to build my patience up for some bigger projects that I have coming up. :)

Robert the star is from Scrollsaw Woodworking and Crafts Magazine the Holiday ornaments and toys issue on page 78. I think I enlarged it a little but not to much. I am going to be doing several more from that same magazine.

I will give the dipping method a try I saw that on another site/page/magazine somewhere along the line I just suprisingly don't have any of the disposable trays right now. I guess I will make trip to the store one night this week.

They are alot of fun.. I didn't realize how much fun it would be. I like it because I have to be more patient with it, with the pens I am able to just pretty much crank them out but this makes me pay more attention to the detail which I need. :)

You should scroll your girls names into the next two chairs you do. :) There is an idea for you, not only do you get to do the two chairs but you can break out the scroll saw again. :)

You certainly got the hang of scrolling - great looking ornaments! I also use the tung oil method. I have considered the star ornament, but wasn't sure I wanted to drill all the holes - lol!

It was a bunch of holes. Boy was it a lot of holes. :) It was fun though. Bonnie has to work the next 3 nights in a row so I guess I will have more saw time when Josh goes to bed. Now I need to figure out what to do next. :)
