Hi folks,
My name is Rob and I am a woodworker living in Leicester, NC. I make my living working for a cabinetmaker in Asheville doing high end kitchens and interior trim. It pays the bills. I'm lucky enough that my fiance' has let me have my own shop in the basement of our house.
I've been woodworking for 16 years now although the first 14 of it I was a professional scenic carpenter, building scenery for stage, television and touring shows. It's only been in the last couple of years that I started focusing on building furniture full time.
Looking forward to looking around and seeing what's here.
Thanks
Rob

Welcome Rob, I am glad you found us. My best friend lives in Leicester off of Green Valley Rd. I try to get up there as often as I can. Beautiful country. I look forward to your input in the forums, it sounds like you have a lot of experience to share.

Welcome Rob. I am glad you found us. I look forward to seeing some of your work. Feel free to jump in anytime.

Welcome to the site. NCWW is a great place to learn, make friends and make a contribution to the aggregate woodworking knowledge and resources. I rented a farm in Big Sandy Mush during college (UNCA) 40 years ago. It was beautiful then and am sure it still is.

Hey Rob, I currently work in event production, and have also been a scenic carp in the past, as well as a touring TD. We still design and do custom scenic builds for some of our one-off gigs.

What tours did you build for?

Wow, thanks for the extremely warm welcome. looking forward to being here.

Fergy, as for your question, I spent 4 years working for Virginia Scenic in Portsmouth, VA and did a lot of touring shows. The last couple of years, we somehow got in with nickelodeon and themestar so I have built Dora The Explorer, Clifford, a refurb of Scooby Doo, Spongebob Squarepants, Thomas The Train and friends and in the adult realm: Cash: Walk The Line, Footloose, Man of La Mancha and a lot of operas.
I did the TD thing for a while but missed carpentry too much.
Who do you work for now?

Rob: I've done several Nick gigs, both on their touring side and for the corporate sales meetings. Several buddies of mine toured with the shows as well.

Send me your contact info via PM, if you don't mind. I need some good scenic builders for some big one-offs, if you're still in the market.

I work for Total Event Production in Charlotte now. www.totaleventproduction.com no less. Pretty much all corporate but a few theater/touring gigs once in a while. Most of my people come from theater but like the money on this side better. :)

Welcome to the website, Rob, from another Rob in your part of the state. I live in Hendersonville and have enjoyed being a contributor here for more than 3 years. I saw your sign up email and snuck a look at your website -- nice work! I've done one significant wine cellar (more pictures in my gallery here) and enjoy some commission work from time to time. If you're interested in getting together on a regular basis with fellow woodworkers from the area, I'm also President of the Western NC Woodworkers Association that meets monthly to share ideas, techniques and other lore about wood. Our next meeting is on February 14th at 9:30 AM in Fletcher at the shop of one of our members. If you're interested, I can put you on our email list and send you the latest meeting info. We also have a website at www.wncwa.org.

We'll look forward to your posts and pictures. Glad you found us.
