Old Disston Saw Find

Happened onto an old saw that I believe is in the 1878-88 range based on medallion.
Can’t find an etch or stamp but style looks like a no. 7 or 8.

Nice find, it looks to be more in line with a no. 7

I think no. 7 and 8 were the same except for the steel in the blade.

The No. 7 also had a beech handle, while the No. 8 handle was apple. I'm not seeing the "flecks" characteristic of beech, so I would lean towards a No. 8.

I have to admit - I laughed out loud at Chris' post.

We have more technology, supposedly better steel, supposedly better educated people, and yet, we most likely would all agree the without going to a "Boutique" saw maker and spending $300+ saws like this are not made anymore!

On a side note, can you imagine (even factoring for inflation) a carpenter spending $300 -$400 on a handsaw as part of his kit?
