I have been wanting a wooden jack plane for a while now. I have two jointer planes, a 24" and 30", a wooden transitional smoother, but I felt like I needed a wooden jack plane. I found this great deal and jumped on it. When it arrived the body was fairly dry and the iron was well rusted. I couldn't find a makers mark on it anywhere. After cleaning up the iron I found out it is a Ohio Tool Company plane. Fairly good score for a decent price. image.jpeg

Your wood is pretty dark and you may have to inspect the heel with a magnifying glass to see the mice print stamped there. It could've been a different maker in Ohio, but along the line it got an "Ohio Tool" iron from the user.

I have a family heirloom plane that I don't use, but I did clean it up a bit. It's 16" l and 4 lbs. Your plane and mine may be cousins whose wooden blanks were made in the Ohio prisons for starters. :icon_scra That's common to both companies and the Ohio penitentiary is in Columbus (what a coincidence).
