I needed a finished no pour resin pen for WG's and wanted something to brighten up my display.
Red sparkle poly resin/CA home rolled "plastic pen"
The kit is a perfect fit.
For those who haven't tried it,it is a Berea kit, takes a Parker refill.
Straight forward once you get past the fact it requires a "B" mandrel.
I started making this to replace the American flat tops when I found out the failure rate on the transmission was so high when sold to inept buyers with heavy hands.

Hey Eagle, for those of us not fortunate enough to make it to Hickory, care to give any details on your methods. I am picturing something rolled up around the tube and then soaked in CA to harden it :dontknow: Am I even close :eusa_thin

You nailed it grasshopper!:icon_thum
The"something" is felt from the Hobby Lobby.
Pick any color/pattern you want and have a ball.

After using a bunch of materials with CA to make a pen,
Denim(Thus not paying the exhorbitant price of $10.00 for a 5/8ths square by 5 in long pen blank )
Butchers twine sisal rope, cordage from Wally world, Ribbon from Wally world and other "wrappable materials" that bonded well with CA I wanted tomake a pen out of something that resembled a snake skin.
There is no challenge to turning something encapsulated in plastic so I tried a snakes skin overlayed on a wooden core but that too gave me frustrations.
At a local crafts store I found a piece of felt that had a python pattern on it.I wrapped it around the tubes and found that it got quite hard. When it turned it had the appearance of an acrylic blank after I wen through the micr mesh process.
There were voids that needed filling but I wasn't out much for the felt and it did not take much CA.
The process is straight forward.Turn two "fids" that are tapered and fit your tubes.
I put one in either the Beall chuck or a Jacobs chuck the tube comes next and the other fid goes in the live center and the other end of the tube.
It doesn't have to be tight just support the tube so you can revolve the hand wheel.
Cut strips of felt from the hobby store and wrap "barber pole style around the tubes I feed the fabric from left to right from the bottom after securing one end of the fabric with a drop of thick CA.(scuff the tubes first)
After you have wrapped the tube, saturate drop by drop with thin CA.
Add enough wraps as necessary to make the diameter larger than the diameter of the pen you want to make.

The first one I attempted was meant to be a "python" snake skin.
Look closely it's there, a work in progress.

Looks good. Tell us more about how the WG took to the demo. What'd they say?
It wasn't really a demo but John did mention it was the first time I didn't arrive the same time as the food.
