Hello everyone,
I am Mike and I live in a suburb of Charlotte called Indian Trail. I have done some woodworking over the years but, never had the room to put together a full shop. I still don't have the room but, I am hoping to purchase some toos in the next few months and use my garage as a shop right now.

If you live near Indian Trail send me an email or IM me on Yahoo at hpm67.

Welcome Mike!!! I am glad you could join us. For some reason I think that there is a member from Indian Trail..I remember reading that in someone's intro. I would love to help you to spend your tool money. Just let us know what you are looking for and your budget range and you will get tons of information to help you to make the right choice. See you around!!

Welcome to the group Mike. I know there are several folks in your area who are members. We live in Forest City, not too close but not too far away either. We're glad to have you join us and look forward to watching you build your shop. Let me warn you about the infamous Woodguy disease - it is highly contagious, runs rampant in this group, and causes you to spend lots of money on tools. Be sure to pay your mortgage and power bill before it gets a hold of you! (As you can see, we're not necessarily a serious group - except about wood working).

Thanks for the replies and encouragement. I have the woodguy disease and know have also had Mandolin aquisition syndrome. I am not a very accomplished Mandolin player but, I would like to be. As far as my tool money.......well......I don't have any yet. I am looking to make a change in jobs which hopefully will allow for some extra money for tools. Are their any luthiers in the bunch? I would love to build my own guitar and or mandolin.

Do I need to create a forum for luthiers:lol:

Mike:

If you're looking for an expert luthier then go to the Woodcraft in Matthews and look up Jack Combs; I've seen his work and it's very impressive. He should be able to give you some excellent advise.

I'm also from the Indian Trail area, near Potters Road. I'm a hobbiest who spends most of his free time in the shop building furniture, mostly for the family. I'm currently in the process of finishing my kitchen cabinets.

If you're interested in mandolin lessons I can give you some good advise there also. Just let me know.

Newbie in Charlotte.

I live in Harrisburg not far from you. I built a violin which I cannot play worth a hoot but, I play the Mandolin. I thought if I could build a violin, I could certainly play it. Not true........Who would have thunk it..........? Maybe we can put together an all Mandolin Woodguy Disease Band.

PS my violin pictures are posted in Oakwood's Album. Take a look>

Welcome Mike. You'll find this a great place to hang out and learn. Now for the Madoline WG Disease Band......

Would I get a comission for the name. :rolf: Of course I'd have to share that with Sapwood, the WG Disease originator. :)

I'm up in Hickory not too far from ya. Keep an eye on the forum if you are interested in taking classes. I run them out of my shop pretty routinely. :D
