Hello, my name is Charles and I'm a woodaholic. I live outside Indian Trail in what used to be the country, but suburbia is rapidly closing in on me. I still have the luxury of being able to run my planer at 10 p.m. and not bothering the neighbors, so I spend quite a few evenings working late on whatever project I have going. I typically get totally consumed when I'm working on a project, usually some piece of furniture, and ignore other things around the house that need to be done. Sound familiar?
My other passions are fishing and bicycling, though the traffic has become so heavy here I have to be very selective where I can ride around here. I have a weekend place in the mountains near West Jefferson where I can ride safely, though the hills there are becoming more difficult to deal with as I'm aging. Plus I'm always tempted to get in the stream and go fishing when I'm there.
I've considered joining a 12 step program for compulsive lumber buyers; I scour the classifieds and bulletin boards all the time looking for a deal on lumber. Fortunately, my house is not visible from anyone elses so I can build lumber sheds whenever I need to store the latest deal. I had a fellow who had a bandmill that I used to mill up lumber for me, but he retired and sold his mill without giving me a notice. I'm hoping to find someone to replace him, but he is going to be very hard to replace.
I work out of a 24' x 26' shop that's totally disorganized, dusty and cluttered. I can't buy any more big tools unless something goes or I add on, which is unlikely at this time. I'm hoping to refine my skills to the point I can supplement my retirement income (around 6 years away) with my woodworking hobby.
That's it for now.
Charlie
