Hello everyone. I too have recently joined the forums. I'm in process of assembling a workshop in a 12' x 12' space in a room adjoining my walk-out basement.

I don't have pictures to share to date, as I'm still researching equipment and trying to convince my wonderful wife that spending many thousands of dollars really is a good idea!!

I live in south of I-485 down Providence Road a bit in Marvin, NC.

I was a decent golfer (I have 3-year-old and 1-year-old boys) at one point.

Glad to be aboard and look forward to a great deal of brain-picking in the future!!:eusa_clap

I'm in dire need of some electrical advice/work if anyone has any contacts in that arena.

Welcome to the site. I am 100% sure we can help you spend money! There is a forum we have that is dedicated to reviews. You will find some good information there. Also, just ask for opinions about anything specific, and you'll get days worth of reading.

Welcome Sweetgum, I am glad to have you here. I don't know about on-site electrical advice in your area, but there was a recent post about shop wiring and we have many experienced and knowledgable members who offered a wealth of knowledge to the poster. I am sure you'll find the same assistance, and possible someone that does live in your area too. See you around.
Dave:)

Welcome to the site, Brad -- I'm a golf nut, too, but broke a bone in my left wrist 8 days ago while playing (didn't hit the "big ball", just too strong a swing with too tight a grip). I'll have it in a hard splint and will be away from the sticks for at least 6 weeks -:-( - a tough pill to swallow for a retired guy who can play on any day that ends in a "Y".

Anyhow, you will find us a pretty friendly and helpful bunch -- you might want to try one of those shop layout tools (at Grizzly or at Porter-Cable to help locate you shop tools -- if you need help with electrical circuits, I can try to assist verbally from afar, 'tho I'm not an electrician (I rewired my shop and have fair knowledge of the code requirements to do it safely). Look forward to seeing you around the forums -- just chime in when you've got a question or a comment!

Welcome to the site and good luck with the shop. 12x12 is somewhat limiting but it really depends on what you want to do. Creative layout and mobile bases on tools allow people to do some amazing things in very tight quarters. Do you know yet what types of projects you would like to do?

Hey Brad,
Welcome aboard. Can't help you much with electrical stuff or tools either for that matter... I am just learning myself... But send me that wife of yours and I will be happy to convince her of your dire needs. Come to think of it I am in the same boat as you... Think you could have a talk with my hubby.:-D

Once again, WELCOME!

Welcome aboard Brad. I'm just the other side of the big city from you.

My first woodworking endeavors were in an 8'x12' shop. I turned out some pretty decent pieces there though. By opening double doors in the front and double windows in the back I could handle pretty good sized boards. Sheet goods gave me a fit though. It just makes you think things through carefully before attempting a project.

Happy sawdust.

Welcome!

12x12 shop size sounds familiar............:-(

Oh well, I guess it's not the size that counts, it's how you use it.

Or at least I've been told that....

Thanks for the warm welcome!!

Do you have a similar shop size fivestring?

Or, to anyone that is also space limited, I'd be interested in talking/viewing pictures about your shop layout and the tools you have/utilize.

I've used a number of the shop layout tools provided and am quite the Visio nerd so I've planned extensively in this regard, but of course, since I haven't put my "practice into action" I'm sincerely interested in some of the do's and dont's associated with spacing and layout.

Thanks!!

I started in a 8 x 20, moved up to a 16 x 16, and currently have a 24 x 32 and I still do not have enough space. I think it is a standard that no matter how much you have it is never enough.

I am now of the mindset that everything possible should be on wheels.
