I'm really just posting this to thank McRabbet for the info on mounting vices.
So . . . Thanks - I really appreciate the help.
Anyway here's some pix

Nice job on the vice Pete:icon_thum . That's gotta be a new bench too. It's way too clean! You better get busy makin' some sawdust to hide some of that shine:lol: . Nice gloat, by the way.
Take care,
Randy

Pete -- I'm happy to hear that the article I sent did the trick and that you put it together so well! Great job -- but don't try to mount any of those jigsaw puzzle pieces in that vise!

Nice looking vice. Here I was thinking when I read your header, you had taken up naked skiing or something... Nice looking workbench as well!

A nice bench and a nice vise. A vise is a nice substitute for another pair of hands in many operations in the shop. You will enjoy it I'm sure.

Looks good. By the way I love SYP. The stock you used for your bench looks like a very premium example of it.

Good to see a nice crisp new vise and workbench, ready to enter into battle... I know you'll enjoy having it!

Thanks guys. The vice is a Groz (whatever that means) got it on sale at woodcraft a while ago. Finally got around to installing it. And yes, the bench is new also. Good ol' SYP! Not very popular with some on this site but I like it.:eusa_dancIt will get a good workout this weekend - (but first I have to clean all the gunk off my saw blades):eyeslam:

Hey Pete,

Please post some pic of the new bench as soon as you do some work on it... we worry when we see a bench that clean.

Pete, that's a great looking workbench and vice you got there. Looks like you did a great job on the installation.

Nothing wrong with SYP...better than my non-existent bench. I'm using a sheet of mellamine on sawhorses. I hope to build a workbench later this summer after I get some projects done! I'll be proud if it looks anywhere near as nice as yours!

Nice work Pete! And I would be proud to have a SYP bench. Currently I have a very small Groz that clamps to the plywood top of my work stand (doesn't qualify as a bench ). Even so, it has proven invaluable. So I know you're going to enjoy having a "real" vice.

Enjoy,
Sapwood
