Ok, so I have been here for a few weeks and haven't introduced myself...so sue me!!

Hi everyone, my name's Marco and I'm an alco...I mean woodworker. sorry, wrong group

I am a 26 yr old guy originally from NY but I have been below the mason dixon line for some 11 yrs now, so I am some sort of hybrid yankee redneck. I have only been seriously woodworking for about a year now, but have ALWAYS been interested...just never had the money/time/space to get really into it. Even now, I barely have any of those three things, but I make do.

Besides working with about 80 Sf of shop space (which is hell), I make my living from UNC-Chapel Hill as a night/weekend manager over all the pay parking lots and parking decks on campus. But, not for much longer I hope as I will soon be transitioning careers into real estate sales...God willing!

If I am successful with that transition, it is a mathmatical certainty that there will be a new building built on my property, and a number of new/better tools purchased, with the successive gloats to follow.

Till then I will have to live in inferiority as I watch many of you with your beautiful shops and beautiful tools turn out beautiful pieces.

Anyways, I am glad to be a part of this group, and I hope to increase my participation as the opportunities arise. Keep on cutting!

Hi Marco. Welcome to our group - we're glad you finally decided to announce yourself! I'm guessing that you have already found us to be a friendly group, willing to share knowledge and humor. What kind of woodworking do you like to do? Please request a photo album and post some pictures. Feel free to jump in and enjoy the group.

Marco,
We all started in about the same place and built up our shops over time. Welcome to the group and good luck with your plans.

Welcome Marco. I too started out in a very small space many years ago when I first began tinkering with WW. I built my small son a toy box while working out of the storage room at the end of a carport. He still has the toy box over 30 years later. I didn't really get serious with WW until 5 years ago and began to spend serious $$ on tools. Hang in there. You can learn at lot from the nice folks on this forum. I just found it a few weeks ago and have found it to be very helful.

Welcome Marco, thanks for the introduction. If it makes you feel any better I think that your shop space is still bigger than Fivestring's shop:lol: I look forward to your participation around here. See you around!!!!!!

Dave:)

Hey Marco.......welcome aboard. We are glad you could join us here at NCWW. I pretty much started out with a shop about the size of yours and only recently been able to get a dedicated shop set-up.......or at least trying to. Enjoy your time here and feel free to jump into the middle of any of the forums.

Marco,

Welcome from another New Yorker. been here about the same amount of time, but I got here when I was about your age, now.

the LOML still thinks the garage is for her car, which leaves me with just enough space to wiggle, certainly not enough space to swing a hammer. Career things are looking up here, too. To have a dedicated shop, some day, some day.:eusa_pray

Welcome to the site, Marco -- I'm another displaced New Yorker, but from the upstate (Rochester). Have been in the south over half my life and retired here, too. You'll glean lots of good information from the good folks on this site -- we have fun, we share ideas and expertise and believe in photos as the test of one's progress. Welcome aboard.

Welcome Marco. We've all had to start somewhere. I started in about 160 sqft feet. This is a great place to hang and learn as you've already found out.

So far I have really enojoyed the group. You're all very welcoming!

DaveO, if Fivestring's shop is smaller than mine, then he should probably get into Houdini style gigs cause it must be a challenge just to get in and out of the shop! :slap:

McRabbet....I must have been grossly negligent in giving the impression that I am from "The City". In reality, I'm from the same neck of the woods you are. I'm from a place called Geneva, in the Finger Lakes. If you're from Rochester, you have undoubtedly heard of it.

Anyways, nice to be here everyone....one of these days I will sort out my issues with my digital camera and take some pics for you. Till then, I appreciate being welcomed so readily! :eusa_danc

Yep -- I'm actually from Brighton, a Rochester suburb and our family (and me, too) has property on the west side Cananadaigua Lake. Beautiful country in the summer. I've been in Geneva many times.

Okay, I have heard of both your hometowns, but have either of you heard of Malone? My younger brother lives in Fairport(on the canal), but has bounced around the Rochester area after graduating from U of R.

Welcome Marco, but beware. I have found this to be addictive and to cause you to constantly want to upgrade tools, shop space, etc.:)

IIRC, Malone is way upstate (on the St. Lawrence River?) -- FWIW, I lived at 93 West Church Street in Fairport for several years (until 45 years ago) and then we moved to Brighton -- I graduated from the U of R as well -- didn't go to Duke (where I was accepted) 'cause it was too far away. Wouldn't you know I lived in Durham for 18 years, too!

Massena is on the river, Malone is about 30 minutes east of Massena, and there is a fair chunk of Canada between there and the St. Lawrence.

My brother and his family live on Church St.! (East, I think. cannot remember the address.)

Too late travis...I got bitten by WD LOOOONG ago. Joining this group is merely a symptom of my addiction

Nice to know there are so many transplants around here....seems to me we're about to outnumber the natives! I guess we're damn Yankees now?

Thanks for the offer Michael...I may very well take you up on that. as far as what tools I am looking for, the real question is what tools am I NOT looking for

The even bigger question is where in the hell would I put these new tools when I get them!!!! All in good time....patience is a virtue...yadda yadda
