Well, after much consternation, procrastination, hesitation and mast...(oops wrong forum:slap:) the Rikon finally made to my garage. Not it's final resting (working) place but it is set up and making chips fly:eusa_danc
Still have some issues tho...
The manual is terrible but my major problem is that the adjustment of the tables is way stiff. It takes 2 hands to turn the crank. There is a table lock knob which is obvious and a "Lock screw" thingie on the back which isn't even mentioned in the manual (It's in the parts list but not the text). Both are loose but movement is still to hard. There are adjustment screws along the length of the Gib (dovetail track) but again no mention of them or how to adjust them in the manual. Also, I can't figure out how the Depth limiting stop is supposed to work. It's installed but I'm not sure how it's supposed to function. I'll be calling Rikon support tomorrow. That should be interesting!

Anyway, here are some pics:

That appears to be one sweet looking jointer Pete. I hope you can get the tables dialed in without too much grief. I am not familiar with a how a depth limiting stop is supposed to work on a jointer or what one even looks like.

Issue 91 (Oct 96) of Wood Magazine had an article on tuning up jointers. They also offer a down-loadable seminar in their Wood Store for $6.95 in case you are interested.

Thanks guys . . .

I'm not to concerned about the depth stop. I don't plan on taking 1/2" chunks off any tree trunks in the near future!

Guess I'll try playing with the gib adjusters tomorrow. Mike - you said try tightening a 1/4 turn. I'd have thought if the table is to tight I should loosen the screw not tighten. How does that work?

I looked at the Wood Mag site. Think I'll try Rikon support and the Woodcraft folk first. (They're free :))

Well the Gib adjustment did it :eusa_danc Thanks Mike :eusa_clap

D L's comment got me looking around and I found a jointer Tune-up article in an old FW. It explained the process and even had pictures - something I think should be included in the Rikon manual. Everythings running smooth now.

And per Fred I removed the Depth stop.

Thanks again for all the input.

You've fixed it now, but my Rigid beds were also very tight when it first arrived and it seems that often one of the gib screws is used as a lock on the outfeed and as a transit clamp on the infeed.
