Hi. My name is John and I live in Maggie Valley. I moved here from St Pete Beach, Florida. Bought a house with out a garage or shop so I will be building that this summer.
Just retired about 9 months ago so I will be enjoying NC and woodworking temporally from a rented wood shop in Asheville. By the way I haven’t done any woodworking for about 15 yrs so I my be considered a newbe.

Thanks, John

Welcome to the group. Maggie Valley's a nice area, you'll have no problems getting woodworking ideas there to get you back up to speed.

John,

Welcome to the North Carolina Woodworkers group. You may have been away from sawdust fora while, but I bet you get back up to speed in no time at all.

Be sure to request a photo album and post pics of your work. I'd love to see the 'in progress' photos of your workshop as well as any projects you might build. I work in a garage, so the idea of a real workshop is a bit of a fantasy for me.

Welcome John, to the site and back to woodworking. I would enjoy seeing and hearing about your shop build. And hopefully if any questions or delimas arise during that time, the membership here will be able to help you out.

Hello John. Here's a hearty welcome to the site, to NC and mostly, back to woodworking. Lots of luck in building that shop.

Welcome John! There are several of us here in the West that are active on the site. I live in Horse Shoe and work in Asheville. Let me know if I can be of any help. We are also putting together a woodworking group in the West that will meet monthly, let me know if you are interested in any details.

Welcome to the site (again), John. Glad to hear that you've at least found some temporary quarters, but it's got to be a PITA to drive to Asheville to do some work. I'm sure you will enjoy your retirement and will put together a great shop over the coming months. As Steve D mentioned in his post, we are putting together a woodworking club to serve this area and have our next meeting at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway just east of Asheville at 1PM on June 10th. You are more than welcome to attend and hear a good program on the care and use of Chisels by a woodworker from Clyde, Randy Osborne (aka Ozzie-x on this site). If you are interested in joining the group, send Steve D or me a Private Message and we will guide you through the group sign up process.

Welcome again, Rob

Welcome John! Jump right in to the posts and conversations and that will help you get your groove back on woodworking. Good luck on your shop, I've built several shops, plus I'm a seasoned carpenter and electrical engineer, so if you need any advice feel free to holler. Like Rob said, we're pulling together a WNC woodworking group and would be pleased if you could join us.:icon_thum
