Hello everyone. I'm a new member, and would like to email with other members near the coast. I'm a carpenter by trade and enjoy making outdoor furniture and scrollsawing. I look forward to hearing from ya'll.

Hi Kevin, welcome to the site. We have a few scrollers that will love to exchange ideas with you. What sorts of stuff do you like to scroll?

I'm just getting back into scrolling, but I used to do inlay projects, 3-D animals, silhouettes, etc. I would like to get into scrolling portraits now and do an album of my family.

Welcome! I would love to see pictures of your work. The portraits sound cool. Would you use a black and white photo and cut out the black? I have seen pictures of work like that and it can be very realistic. See you around!!!

I have a book that tells how to take a b&w photo and trace it, then where to erase lines and how to add detail to make a pattern. I haven't tried it yet, but am looking forward to it. I'll let ya'll know how it works. Hopefully it will be good enough that I'll be proud to share it.

Welcome to the forum, Kevin -- we're happy to have another scroller in the group and being a carpenter just makes being a woodworker that much easier! Be sure to click on Other Links on the Menu Bar and request a Photo Gallery to upload pics of your work and shop (around here, "no pics, it didn't happen"! ). The, check the Photo Gallery FAQs in the FAQs forum to learn how to upload. And, to find those nearby members, go back to Other Links and Click on Members List. Then, use the Advanced Search under Member Search and select the county you want from the scroll down list (been there, done that!). You'll find five members from Carteret County, two others in your town! Enjoy and welcome aboard!

BTW -- I'm about 400 miles west of you in Henderson County!

Another scrollsawer!!! Glad to have you on board. I have never tried portraits - or even anything with really fine detail. I learned a long time ago with my scroll saw that I couldn't do these find cuts. Please post pictures!

Ahoy & Welcome Aboard Kevin,

We live on South Creek near Aurora and it's good to have a fellow coastal scroller. We are looking forward to hearing from you and your participation in our little family of woodworkers.

glad to hear of other coasters, I feel pretty isolated here on obx. This is a great way to have a sense of community in a common craft.

Welcome Kevin. Beware of Woodguy disease as it is highly contagious. I am trying to get into rehab at this time.:)
