New member from Gastonia

Hello everybody. I've been reading the forum for quite a while and I thought it was time I stepped inside.

I got started in woodworking after I realized that my desire for quality furniture didn't go well with the fact that I can be sort of a cheapskate. I'll make my own furniture!! So far, I've made a few things and I'm progressing through the learning curve. I joined the Charlotte Woodworkers a couple of years ago and have picked up a lot of tips and inspiration from them.

I have a 2 car garage that I use as my shop and all the big tools are on wheels so I can actually park cars inside (although it's kind of a pain so don't do that very often).

I'll post a few pictures eventually.

I look forward to participating in the discussions for a change.

I'll always welcome a cheapskate, I'm known to be one too. I don't know 'bout this parking cars in garages err. shops, sounds kinda funny to me. I'm glad that you decided to come out of the shadows and join up , and not be too pretentious (like Cher etc.)

Hello Greg and welcome to the site. I totally understand about having to share the garage, err, shop!! Only good thing is that loml says I can put whatever I want in it as long as she has room for her car. I guess that's a good trade-off. Look forward to seeing pix of your work. I can't believe you folks are going to make me take a picture of my garage/shop with both cars inside. That is sooo untrusting of you.:lol:
I need to replace a power steering hose this weekend, so maybe that's the time to take some garage photos.

I'm currently in the early stages of a small four drawer chest - my first project with drawers, and dovetails. So far, so good.

Very nice work, excellent use of some wonderfully figured wood. Is the umbrella stand Purpleheart and curly Maple???? How did you keep the Maple so white, it's stunning.

Welcome. Nice stuff you have built so far. The umbrella stand reminds me of one I saw David Marks make on Woodworks.

I especially like the book case. Do you have plans for it? Wouldn't mind making one myself like it if you don't mind.
