Hi, My name is Lorraine and my husband and I live on Lake Gaston where we have both recently retired. I spend my days in the shop while he is attending classes at the local community college. He doesn't share my interest in woodworking, no patience, but does lend a hand when I ask for one. I spent about four months in a shop with a fellow woodworking back in the spring where I got my feet wet and gained enough courage to start out on my own. I have just finished a ten drawer chest of drawers for our daughter for christmas and have just about finished two small chest for the grandaughters. As you can see I never start out small. I have learned a lot from my mistakes and am always ready to take on a new project. You will see me here often as I get stuck and come looking for help from the pros. Thanks for the site!

Thanks Dave, as soon as I finish the projects and figure out how to post them, I will be happy to share them. I am very proud of my new new projects. Can't wait to see the faces of the family when they get their presents at Christmas.

Check out the information in the FAQs and How to forum. There is all you need to know about posting pictures. Go to Request Services and have an admin set you up an album and you're ready to roll. There is nothing like making something for the family and seeing the looks on their faces when the receive it. That is what fuels most of my woodworking efforts. Dave:)

Dave, the chest was my biggest project for Christmas, now I have to work on my husband's gift. Saved the best for last. I told him I needed a 10" blade for the radial arm saw and a load of wood. He just smiled, do you think that means he already has it? :p

Lorraine, Welcome to the site and congratulations to both you and your husband on your recent retirements. Enjoy it fully, I am sure you both earned it. We would love to see some pics once you complete with your chest of drawers and small chest. Heck, most folks here even enjoy seeing a work in progress, so feel free to post pics anytime. To echo what Dave said, there are a great bunch of folks here willing to offer advice and help. There is also a tremendous variety of interests and knowledge within this group. I look forward to reading your posts.

Welcome to the group! Sorry it took me so long to reply but our internet has been down. Sounds like you did jump in with both feet! This is a great group of folks. Hopefully your husband took your hint. Post photos when you can and add yourself to the map.

Lorraine, Isn't retirement the best thing ever? :drunken_s Since I retired in January '04, I've never had such good times -- no meetings, no bosses, no reports to write, no phone tag to deal with, no morning traffic, no cafeteria food, no staff to supervise; just have time to play golf whenever I want, travel with my lovely wife, sleep 'til 9 AM, spend countless hours in the shop, put things off 'til tomorrow....

Welcome to the most wonderful time of your lives -- and it looks like you've started out with a great new hobby. The folks here, me included, will all be willing to help you succeed. Welcome aboard and happy dust making.

A note to all for the kind welcomes. I get the impression that my day is to start with a cup of coffee and a check in with all my new woodworking friends. Sounds like a plan to me. I will check with Sonny, my four legged companion, and make sure he can hold off a few extra minutes. Seriously I just got home from a class at the college and couldn't wait to check in.

Will be in the shop early tomorrow morning to sand down the sides of a couple of those drawers on that chest and then I will take pics to post. Also about finished with two miniture blanket chest for the two grandchildren. I am so proud of the accomplishments and can't wait to share them with all.

Some of you know I am about to start my final present which is for my husband. He has a collection of about ten knives. They are on an open shelf at this time so I will be attempting a closed wall cabinet for him. He knows about this gift. What he doesn't know is about the bookcase that will hug the wall in front of his special seat in the bathroom. Ha Ha8-O

Thanks again everyone for the warm welcome, will go for now, coffee is getting cold. Lorraine from Lake Gaston

Better let the pooch out before you start checking, the site can be addictive and we wouldn't want any accidents.
