That's pretty darned close to me. Unfortunately, I work M-F, so it's unlikely I'll get there anytime soon.

Will is a good guy. I have known him for several years, we became friends after he took some classes at the North Carolina Furniture School. Go check him out!

Not too far so went to check it out. Unfortunately no one was there. Not obvious to find, in the big yellow building, his door is in the middle inside a drive through. Look for the black and white WKC sign.
Talked to a neighbor, yea, looks mostly like a custom cabinet and mill shop I gather is expanding to sell some lumber. It does not look like a big hardwood warehouse.

Lots of cool businesses in there, mostly woodworking related.

Thanks Matthew!

I can provide some more information about what we are doing over here. I started the Lumber District to provide high quality hardwood lumber to the Durham area. I've been working with Fireside Sawmill to provide kiln dried locally sourced slabs and dimensional lumber as well as other local distributors to provide kiln dried FAS lumber. I generally keep ash, cherry, soft maple, poplar, red oak, walnut and white oak in 4/4 and 8/4. We offer some milling services typically around $1.50/BF on lumber purchased from us.

The Lumber District currently resides at:

Warehouse #2 Bay 6
1400 E Geer St,
Durham, NC 27704

When you get to that address, go to the right through the gate towards BTS Tire. Stay on the paved road up the hill. Warehouse #2 is at the top on the left. You can follow the signs for WKC Woodworks. Since we're a production wood shop, you'll have to just walk in the door. We're usually there between 8-5 M-F.

Feel free to give us a call at (919) 230-1506 or email lumber@wkcwoodworks.com.

The Lumber District has moved into its new (larger) home across the hall. We're having a grand opening event on August 23rd from 9 am - noon. We'll have refreshments from Little Waves Coffee and Lutra Bakery.

Come hang out for a bit and meet some like minded people. Feel free to share the flyer and invite anyone who may be interested. Hope to see you there!

I checked out Will's lumber supply today.

A few notable observations (based on my memory - so no promises):

- several large slabs in I believe maple, walnut and cherry
- lumber stored vertically in a climate controlled space - some in the rough, some surfaced/skip planed?
- walnut is kiln dried but not steamed. Great color IMO. Maybe not quite as pretty as air dried, but better than steamed and no bugs. little sapwood. I have been looking for a source for this wood.
- has quartersawn walnut!
- very nice curly maple. Regular and prime piles. The regular is pretty nice to give you an idea. :)
- cherry has very nice color, in general.
- I think that the price is reflective of the quality of the lumber. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for in this case. A lot of beautiful projects in those racks.
- has super blonde and orange shellac flakes with the latter pretty dark. Also sells premixed sample bottles.
- carries Osmo products
- Will seems like a good guy

I will definitely be back

I've been by Will's shop and lumber space a few times and always walk away with something. Great guy and high quality lumber. Highly recommended.
