Finally after weeks of waiting we got the blocks laid and started the framing. I hope the rest of the project doesn't take as long as the foundation or I'll be too old to use it.

That will be a great addition! What will the roofline look like- how will you transition to the existing building? Will you have access from the existing second floor to the attic area over addition?

Alan, the new roof will have the same pitch as the upper part of the existing roof and tie to the lower part of the existing roof about halfway up. No, there will not be enough head room to open the space over the ceiling to the existing second floor. I think code requires that I provide access however.

i don't think that you need access as long as there is no mechanical up there, but be sure to include some ventalation.
