So I did it..
I pulled the trigger on the Akeda DC16 and the accessory pack from Woodcraft while it was on clearance.

And as good of a deal as I thought it was, there was a bonus in the accessory box.
It is a coupon for two more free cutters.
It looks like the majority of the bits are already in the kit though.
With one exception, I will just duplicate what I have.
And...I am totally clueless. I have never owned a jig and am just beginning to learn about it.

So my question is this.......What are the most useful bits in this kit?
Now I know the first reaction is to mention that it is different for everybody.
Well, I suspect it is more alike than we know.
So ...what bits do you use more?

My options are....
7 degree Dovetail bit
9 degree Dovetail bit
11 degree Dovetail bit
14 degree Dovetail bit
20 degree Dovetail bit
.315" Standard Straight bit
.311" Standard Straight bit
.319" Standard Straight bit
.350 Box Joint bit

Like you say it sounds like a lot of these bits will overlap in the types of joints they can cut and a lot depends on your planned uses for the jig. The best I can cypher from the description of the different bits. The 7º or 9º Dt bit will be used the most for thru DTs in 3/4" stock. 8º is the most established angle for thru DTs in hardwood, so a little to each side makes no difference. You will use a .315" straight cutter for thru DTs with either angle DT bit. HB Dts in 3/4" stock call for the 11º DT bit. And the .350" straight bit is used for most box joint applications.
So if you don't have one of those bits, that would be the first on I would get. And for the other you'll have to define which type of joint you think that you will most commonly cut and get it as a back-up bit when the supplied one wears out.

WHAT???? Where is the GLOAT Michael? And when I posted that sale I specifically warned you not to blame me if you wound up sleeping on the couch (or worse). BTW - how do you make a dovetailed pen?
