14.22 board feet. Do a quick search on google for board foot calculators, there's a bunch of them

[strike]If your length is in feet and both the width and thickness are in inches, then it is 16 x 16/12 x 8/12 = 16' x 1.333 x .667 - 14.222 BF. If on the other hand, if this is a large turning blank that is 16" x 16" x 8", then it is 5.33 BF. I normally express board length in feet and their width and thickness in inches and use the formula (L x W x T)/144.[/strike]

[pie]OOPS![/pie]

I blew it! If the piece is 16' long, then it is 170.67 BF. A large blank that is 16" x 16" x 8" has 14.22 BF in it.

Chris, you could use any of the board foot calculators on the internet or just divide by 144 instead of 12. So it would be L x W x H = XXX then divide the XXX by 144 and this should get you the board foot.

????????????????

A board foot, in inches, is 12" x 12" x 1" = 144 cubic inches.

A bowl blank 16" x 16" x 8" = 2048 cubic inches

2048 cubic inches divided by 144 cubic inches (1 board foot) = 14.2222 board feet

Can I ask a dump question? OK I will anyway. Why do you want to price turning blanks by the BF? I think there is a lot more to blank pricing then the BF.
