Lots of hand tools for sale and extremely nice folks. OzzieX did a fine job as designated mentor.....urging me to buy one of everything
Additional entertainment provided by Steve, D L, Mike, and the Mayor of Hillsborough

Bottom line: I'd do it again in a minute, thanks MWTCA for having us :icon_thum

And, of course, the requisite photo documentation of happy NCWoodworkers

Sapwood,

The question that remains to be answered is what did you buy and where are the pictures?!

Uh Dave, that is a picture of the rusty tool porn 8-O

Apparently the recently elected mayor is a long time MWTCAer and tool porn enthusiast

Enjoyed meeting you guys in Hillsborough today. I could not wait to get back to Terrell to register and join in the fun.

Be sure to mark your calendars for July 22 in Raleigh, biggest and best MWTCA gathering for the year in NC.

Dave, actually the mayor heard the three of us were going to be in town today and he felt obligated to personally come by and welcome us. He even recommended and gave us directions to a local restaurant in historic downtown Hillsborough. Of course as it turned out the restaurant was right next door to the police station so I am not sure what he was trying to tell us.

Some rusty tool porn as requested. This is the #4 Sweetheart plane I picked up at the MWTCA meeting. I believe it is a type 15.

Nice!!! The Type 15's probably represent the pinnacle of the old Stanley planes. That's a fine tool you've got there, looks VERY well preserved, right down to the orange paint in the lever cap! EXCELLENT!!! Now I REALLY wish I had gone to that meeting instead of the woodturners meeting!

Now let's see how she cuts!

Hey all!
Just wanted to say how nice it was to meet you all in person! Like Sapwood, many thanks to OzzieX and Mustang Mike for advice on my first real hand planes. Got a fresh can of WD-40 and some 000 steel wool waiting on them! Not sure what type the Number 4 is. I had serious regrets on the way home for not snagging those big old vises under the table in the back. Oh well, another day, another deal!

Attached tool porn of my #4 and #118 steel bottom:

Hello Guys,
I was really glad you guys came yesterday, and I certainly did enjoy meeting all of you, it's always nice to put faces with people and get to actually talk. I believe NCWW had 7 people there. It was a good meeting and a fun day and I really enjoyed it. The NCWW guys got some nice "stuff" and at good prices. Hopefully Sapwood will also post tool porn of his take, one of his is a nice and unusual. All of those planes are in great shape and will more or less just need a good tuning. Tarhead, your plane is a type 16 (1933-1941), it will be a nice one to use, especially with the corrugated bottom. There's always some nice user type tools at the meetings at good deal prices. Don't worry Insom, since you didn't make it, we got you a nice "mint in the box" rust nugget.

The next meeting is April 8 in Charlotte, and any of the NCWW folks are welcome to attend. There is a "killer" meeting in Madison Georgia Feb 2,3,4 that is really big and will have lots and lots of tables & tools. I think it's a member only meeting, but you can join at the door and the $25 yearly dues are a real deal. Anyway, glad you guys came and I enjoyed meeting you.
My Best

OK, here's the stuff :-|

Stanley No 72 marking guage. What do you use to replace scribes? Finishing nails, kryptonite???

StanleyNo72.jpg

Stanley No. 4 handplane, type 19 if I followed Insom's directions correctly :eusa_thin

StanleyNo4Type19.jpg

Vaughn and Bushnell No. 904. "Drop forged" copy of bedrock design. This plane does have some "pitting" that wasn't visible in the dimly lit "barn". Haven't had time to tuneup, but I'm pretty confident it will be very "usable".
