So the title of the post pretty much says it all. LOML has taken a position as the Director of Digital Technologies for the Columbus OH Metropolitan Library and we are moving in January. This is a great milestone in her career and I'm proud of her.

Good news, for me at least, is that I'm taking most of my machinery with me. I am selling the Delta lathe and have sold off some wood. I did some checking and there is a good woodworking group up there and a couple of good stores and a Columbus Craigslist too.

It will be interesting to watch the guys load my equipment on the truck. Thankfully I can afford the $0 deductable insurance for the move.

David,

Even though you are moving to new digs, I'm certain others will echo that you're always welcome here. Best of luck with the move and may you find a home with at least 1,000 sq ft of shop space for your enjoyment!

Congratulations to your wife for the new job. Sounds like a great opportunity. Take a snow shovel and sled. We'll miss you, but stop in and visit. There is nothing quite like the feeling of a moving van driving off with all of your possessions, or the relief when they are unloaded in their new home.

Congrats to your wife!!!! I don't want to scare you. Make sure you find out just how much the INS. covers for damage. I use to work with a moving outfit in the early '90s.Basic ins. was .06ct. per 100#s.Most people think they are covered for damage's 100%. But you have to read the fine print. Good luck on you move though.Take some pix of them loading and unloading your equipment. You know how we like pix. Stay in touch!

Congrats to your wife. I was a library assistant for a couple of years in high school (a long time ago). Please do stay in touch.

On a side note I moved the thread to "member announcements"

Good luck with the move, Dusty. The Columbus area is about the nicest part of Ohio. Lots of good neighborhoods in "the burbs." Best of luck for the future and best wishes for the holidays.

Best of luck and life in Ohio. If you're ever back down this way, please stop by. And don't be a stranger out there ... I'd believe the policy should be "once a NCWWer, always an NCWWer!"

Congratulations to your wife. I think you will find there is a lot sources for great wood in Ohio- Oaks, Walnut, a little Maple and a lot of Cherry. Columbus has a Woodcraft, Rockler, Wood Werks Supply, among others. Take a day trip sometime up to Hartville, OH to Hartville Tool. Also check out Boston Woodworking Co in Sudbury for their workshops in fine woodworking. Will you arrive in time to attend the Wood Works Show, 11-13 Jan 2008 in Columbus?

On moving your machines- break them down a little so the movers don't have to and so they a little less heavy- remove outfeed and extension tables, etc. Do anything to make them lighter and less vulnerable. Install shipping guards, etc. that may have come with the tools, but don't pack them. A "packed by owner" item is not usually covered in their moving guarantees. I had a successful (no damage) move from N.VA. I moved some of the machines myself, though I don't think it was worth the hassle and strain on my body and vehicle- let the professionals do the work.

Best of luck!

Good advice all,, we decided to pay the extra $760 to up the coverage to 100% replacement and took a video of the entire house before packing anything. I've taken apart all the smaller machinery and packed it myself in double boxes with foam betwen the two boxes. The bigger stuff has been broken down reasonably smaller parts - outfeeds, rails, etc.

A large portion of the moving expenses are being paid, so we are being liberal with spending extra of our own cash to make sure it goes right. However it works out, it will work out. No worries.

Good luck to you and your wife. Being from Ohio myself I can attest to Columbus being a great area to live in and as you can see from some other responses they do take their WW seriously. Just like their football!! You may have heard Columbus is home to a pretty good University and team. Go Buckeyes!!!!!

Congratulations to your wife Dusty! I hope the move goes smoothly and you get your shop set up quickly. What will you be doing? Are taking some time off? Do you already have a job lined up or can you transfer with your existing company?

Good luck and we'll miss you.
