Motivation for the Rocker Boyz!!!

Ok, this is the usual sneak preview speical just for you guys here on this forum. Here is a quick pic of my walnut rocker I started with Monty, Brandon, and Steve D.

I will be photographing the chair for my usually gallery, but this is a special preview. This is after 4 coats of shellac. There will be at least one more coat of shellac and then a couple coats of Lacquer. The shellac is being sanded down to mostly fill the grain. I'm not looking for a complete grain fill, but I am semifilling the pores.

I'll have this chair pretty well wrapped up by Monday. I'll let it sit for a few days and wax it up Thursday night before packing it up for it's trip to Virginia.

Ok guys, get to ROCKIN!!!!!!!!

Anyone want to learn to make one of these. I have two classes coming up with spots in both. PM me interested.

John, beautiful as usual. I think that I like this one more than your Mahogany one. It has more wood character. I will take your class one of these times, I've been saving my pennies.

Boy I need to rewrite the contract for the class. If thel chair isn't completed within so many months....... A BIG FINE!!!

Dang........that is one sharp looking chair John. I really like the grain pattern on the top rail(?). When are you going to take your rocker class on the road so us eastern folks can have a shot at it. I have 832 sq ft of shop space available for classes.

I hope that is 832 available square feet and not total. Rockers take up a lot of room. We use every bit of my bench area with 4 rockers. We'll work on the road course. Actually it doesn't take a lot of specialized tools. The one necessity is a good bench with patternmakers vise.

See, I didn't mention any of my specialized tools. :lol: Although they do help. How many Bandsaws do you have?

You guys gotta stop making this great stuff. I'm not even done with my shop and my list of things I want to make someday keeps getting longer and longer. A good bench, like Monty's, now the rocker. Us rocker boyz would probably have more motivation if we had three bandsaws, a 16" and a 10" jointer to choose from :rolf:

In all seriousness though we do need to get on it, and knock out our chairs. Easier said than done though.

Thats one great looking rocker forsure, lots of hours of time spent and the craftsmanship speaks for it's self. :icon_thum

I understand the seat contour for butt cheeks. But I'm a little conserned about that pointy piece of wood in the front middle of the seat. One wrong move and oh boy that could be painful 8-O (without getting too graphic).
