I'd like to recurit a few moderators for various forums and Galleries. The moderation will be of the passive type that I've described before. If you become a moderators, you will get an email when there are posts in your area that you haven't seen. Your job would be to once a day go look and see if any post has or might create a problem. See this for an extremme case.

Problems would generally be, posting pornographic material, displays of bigotry, racial, religious, sexual, sexual preferrence, etc. and most important personel attacks on members. (However, since i know of no politicians that are members, they are fair game. ) No I'm not trying to be PC, but There are what I consider lines that are best not crossed. In almost 2 months we've been up, there has not been one single post or picture that I have even considered a problem. And if with your help, we set the right tone those type of things won't even happen here, (often)

There is one thing I would like all moderators to do. Let's make sure every poster knows that their post was seen. Sometimes, that means, a quik short reply thankng the poster for their partici[ation. I've been trying to do that myself from the beginning. If a person ask a question and there is no response at all or not in a useful manner, the moderator could bump the post or even attempt to answer themselves, or even contact another member who knows something about the area in question and ask them to reply.

I'll be publishing guidelines about how some issues should be handled, but for the most part, I want to leave it to the good judgement of the moderator. Just remember that moderation on this board will be after the fact and must be done with a light hand except for extreme situations. For most cases a simple PM, advising the poster of a potential pronlem will be more than enough.

So here are the questions. Do you want to be a censor, Do you want to be the arbiter of "good taste" Do you want to decide what is potlically correct. Do you like to be in charge of forums. If any or all of the answers are yes, than this is NOT the place for you to be a moderator.

If you have questions about this, please post them in this forum. If you want to potentially volunteer. Pick a forumand .or function and send me an email.

Thanks,

A couple of points of clarification. There 23 forums divided into 6 categories. What I meant was a single forum. Not that that can't have more, if you want it.

What about those forums with no posts? Yes , I would like to have a moderator there also. Two, reasons, first it signals our intent for the forum to be used and two, the moderator can sometimes jump start the discussions in their forums.

Now, what happens, if you take on a moderator's position, and then find out that you don't have the time. No big deal, just let me know. What if you can't check in every day, no problem, it's not like we're that busy,:-\" yet. What, if you going away for a weekend, again no big deal. What if just as you are about to log in for a quick review of new posts, the LOYL makes you an offer you can't refuse and you never get a chance to login. Well, it looks like you got your priorities right:smile:

As for the Galleries, I think what I would like is to see several people to help each other with all the galleries.

DaveO...takes a bow. I am glad that I can do something to help this forum grow. Cloudancer, if you sent me an e-mail I don't think that I got it. I'll check again though. Thanks all, Dave:smile:

Cool, you helped me to realize that I had not enable my "receive e-mail" function. So you couldn't have sent me anything. Dave:smile:

Glad I could help. Now if I could figure out why I'm not getting notifications from the board when someone posts on a topic I'm subsribed to. I think I have it set right *shrug*.

*edit* Notifications finially started working, not sure why, but they do so I'm happy

Have you gotten all the moderators you wanted? I'm not sure that I know enough to help, but I can recognize really inappropriate posts. I'd be glad to help if you want me to.
